Critique of Sources

Students at HL are required to write a critique of the sources used in the research investigation. For the critique to be effective, these sources must be relevant to the specifics of the research undertaken. This critique should form a separate section at the end of the research investigation. Itshould clearly demonstrate the student’s understanding of the sources used and their relevance to the investigation.
A critique of the sources allows the researcher to develop the ability to select and choose resources relevant to their topic.

The Critique should be a descriptive and evaluatative reflection of the source. Organize it at the end of the research investigation by identifying the source and briefly summarizing the contents. Be sure to discuss:
  • Relevance
  • Accuracy
  • Quality
  • Contents
  • How it was used
  • Was it useful
